At Broomfield House School, we value each child as an individual and strive to help them develop as the people they are. Unique to Broomfield, our Individual Learning Enhancement (ILE) Programme is the vehicle through which we identify and support pupils’ differing needs. The aim is to maximise both the potential and the actual achievements of our pupils within the holistic education we provide. We are committed to giving all our children every opportunity to achieve the highest of standards and offer a personalised approach to enhance their learning and help them flourish.
Our approach is to track every child’s progress closely and plan support, consolidation or extension intervention as appropriate. Through termly Class Review meetings, the class teacher and Head of ILE jointly review progress and revise provision in order to meet the individual needs of each and every child. ILE support is provided on an individual basis or in small groups as appropriate. While generally the ILE team will work to enrich the children’s academic learning, sometimes emotional, behavioural or physical needs will also be addressed.
The Head of ILE is a qualified SENCO and is responsible for looking after the needs of the children identified as having special educational needs and/or disabilities, including those children with an Individual Education Plan or Education, Health and Care Plan.
We are delighted to have many more able children in school. Extended provision is made for them within the classroom, but often we also provide enrichment activities to promote their skills still further, managed through the ILE Programme. Our provision for these pupils aims to improve achievement by giving appropriate challenges and is rooted in the notion of ‘developing expertise’, whilst paying close attention to every child to encourage a positive mindset.
