Senior School Musical

A reminder for our Year 5 and 6 parents who have still to order tickets for the Senior School Musical Peter Pan, the closing date for your orders in 12pm on Tuesday 2nd July. There will be two performances, an evening performance, which will take place on Thursday 4th July at 6pm, and a matinee performance, which will take place on Friday 5th July at 2pm.

Den Day – 4th July

Den Day, will take place on Thursday 4th July. All of the children will have fun building dens in school to raise money for Save the Children. It will be a fun way for us to raise funds that will change children’s lives, whilst learning new skills, including team building. Once the dens have been built the children will enjoy a picnic lunch inside their dens. On Wednesday 3rd July, we kindly ask that each child brings in an item from home to help build the dens. This can be cardboard boxes, a blanket or a sheet, some clothes pegs, or any other item from around the house that might make good building materials. A link to donate to Save the children can be found by clicking here.

Summer Camp: 15th to 19th July

Our Broomfield Summer Camp is in hot demand. This fun bumper packed week is something that all the children look forward to. It is run by our staff and is supported by members of our school community.  There are two sessions each day; mornings run from 9.30am-12 noon and afternoons between 1-3.30pm.  Children staying for a whole day should bring a packed lunch which must not include nuts or eggs.  We provide drinks and snacks. If you missed the form in last week’s newsletter don’t worry, there is still time to sign up. Year 5

Spanish Fashion Show
We would like to remind you that some Year 5 children will participate in the Spanish fashion show on Monday, 1st July. If your child is performing, please have them come to school dressed in their fashion show attire. They should also bring their school uniform with them, as they will change after the Spanish lesson, which is scheduled for the morning due to the technical rehearsal for Peter Pan.
ISEB Pre-Test
As previously mentioned in our recent meetings, some schools use the ISEB 11+ Pre-Test as part of their 11+ admissions process.  The registration for the ISEB Pre-Test is now open on their website.  If you are thinking of applying for a school using the ISEB Pre-Test, we recommend that you sign up for emails to receive their updates.  You may also now register on the Guardian Portal, stating Broomfield House School as your chosen Invigilation Centre.
For your information, some of the schools that include the ISEB in their 11+ process include:
  • The Harrodian School
  • Kew House School
  • Lady Eleanor Holles School
  • Reed’s School
  • St Paul’s School (Boys)
  • Westminster Under School
  • Many boarding schools also use the ISEB Pre-Test.
If you are not sure whether you need to sign up to the ISEB Pre-Test or if you have any questions, please contact Mrs Ketel (email: hketel@broomfieldhouse.com).  There is no rush to sign up as we will host the ISEB Pre-test in November 2024 but the ISEB have opened their registration early this year in case parents or guardians have any queries.

Highlights

Poetry Recitals

On Wednesday, the KS1 children wowed their teachers and parents with an exceptional array of poems. The Year 1 children selected a poem, while the Year 2 children wrote their own. Both classes excelled in their delivery and recited with eloquence, confidence and pride. A huge congratulations to every child for making the morning most magical and memorable for us all.

Eldercool - Kew Fete

We are delighted to share that our Year 4 children successfully ran their annual Elderflower Stall at the Kew Fête last Saturday. It was a fantastic day for everyone involved. The event attracted thousands of visitors from across London, creating a vibrant and lively atmosphere.

The handmade sweet treats were a big hit. We received an email from Pippa, the Kew Fete Stalls Coordinator, informing us that they are still finalising the totals, but it looks like the event has raised around £20,000 for local charities, which is fantastic news. Thank you all for your support and contributions!

Debating

On Friday 21st June our brilliant Year 5 debating team (Charlotte H, Victor, Anushka, Zach, Tara and Arnav) represented Broomfield as one of only eight schools at the national final of the Cicero debating competition, and the only school to qualify for the final in two successive years!
We fought electrifying semi-finals on 1. whether international tourism does more harm than good, against St Stephen’s Primary, and on 2. whether the aeroplane changed the world more than the internet, against St Mary’s, Eltham. Our best efforts were not quite enough this year to carry us through to the grand final, which was between two Year 6 teams – James Allen Girls, Dulwich and Bancroft’s Prep, Enfield.
Mr Kennedy accompanied the team and said that what impressed him the most was how tenaciously both of our teams engaged in their debates and looked for opportunities to challenge the opposition’s position. The organisers also praised our pupils’ high standards of debate, and our courtesy and behaviour.

Kindergarten Trip

Kindergarten had a great day out at the London museum of water and steam. The day started with an interactive puppet show before an opportunity to explore the museum where the children learnt about steam engines, how our water is cleaned and how it has changed over the years. After lunch they enjoyed playing in the splash zone in the sun before boarding the bus back to school.

Art Highlight

Year 4 studied Henri Matisse and his work. Inspired by his work, the children created a colouring pencil drawing of his studio, integrating leaf shapes like the ones he used in his decoupage work at the end of his life.
