Broomfield is an independent co-educational day school for 3 to 11 year olds. Based in a beautiful Victorian house which, combined with a modern 3 storey building containing our Art, Music and Drama facilities and a kitchen and dining room which won an architectural award, provides both a homely environment and up to date facilities. We are an Endeavour Ambassador School for our neighbour, Kew Gardens and enjoy a close partnership with this world-class botanical wonderland.
Our outside space is surprisingly large and the children have a lot of fun on the tubular slides and playing football, netball and volleyball at break times or casting their nets into the pond, where micro-organisms abound.
We offer a broad curriculum so, as well as English, Maths and Science, we teach the Creative Arts, Humanities, Computing, Spanish and Sports. We aim to give our pupils a varied experience both within our curriculum and through extra-curricular activities, offering plenty of opportunities to discover the things that make their hearts sing. Our children enjoy performing in annual plays, musicals and concerts, contributing in assemblies and at events, singing in the Chamber Choir and playing in our Orchestra.
Academic success
Through our rich curriculum, Broomfield aims to stimulate our children’s interest in many things and encourage them to be ambitious for their own success. Our children perform well in the 11+ exams and we are proud to see many receive offers from top-performing senior schools.
In autumn 2018 were delighted to be presented with a crystal award from Education Advisers Ltd for being a Top Ten London Prep School. We are a non-selective school and are equally keen that every child secures a place in the school best suited to their interests and talents.
We participate in competitions across a range of disciplines to energise those children who are inspired by the chance to ‘win’. In 2019/2020 we won the ISA 3D art competition and the Hampton Maths Wizard and many of our children have gone through to the ISA nationals in Swimming and Cross Country. Broomfield children also did well in the BBC 500 Words and the Richmond Young Writers competitions.
Active in our community
We play an active role in our local community; singing and playing music at local care homes and lunch clubs, performing at Kew Sparkle and raising money for Rotary charities by singing Christmas carols at Richmond Station.
In partnership with the Kew Neighbourhood Association, our Year 6 pupils come together with local elderly residents to chat and deliver harvest festival gifts. Our children are encouraged to think of others and often come to us with innovative ideas to support campaigns that are dear to them. Recent examples, led by Harry and Jonathan respectively, include fundraising for charities supporting the Australian bushfires emergency and Save the Children’s Den Day, which aims to make sure that children across the world have a safe place to live and play.
The combination of these activities and attitudes results in secure, motivated children leaving us at age 11 with developing maturity and confidence. Their Senior Schools are lucky to have them!
