Broomfield’s tag rugby players were thrilled to be invited to play at the Varsity Match (Oxford versus Cambridge) at Twickenham Stadium in the Easter holidays, as part of the half time entertainment. It was a terrific opportunity for the children in Years 3 to 6 to play at this massive venue in front of the Varsity match fans. The day began watching the women’s match where Cambridge and Oxford shared a 10-10 result, recording the fixture’s first-ever stalemate.
Just before the end of this first game, the Broomfield players were called into the tunnel, from where they ran onto the pitch. Any pre-match nerves disappeared as soon as play began. Sports Teacher, Mr Pache, was delighted to see some great performances from his pupils and was so proud of the skills they displayed on the field. After our game it was the turn of the Varsity men’s teams. A spirited second-half display saw Oxford University defeat the Cambridge team 21-17 in the 140th Varsity Match at Twickenham.
This was such an exciting day for everyone and we have no doubt that great memories will have been made for our happy tag rugby competitors to recall in the years to come!
Broomfield was selected for this treat because they had won a Kew Tag Rugby Tournament earlier in the Spring Term. What a wonderful way to celebrate.
